Things to do:
Three local landmarks that are well worth a visit and are less than 15 minutes drive from the apartment:
The Giant's Causeway which is a World Heritage Site on the coast road beyond Bushmills. The newly built Visitors Centre sets the scene.
Dunluce Castle is a classic ruin on the cliff edge on the road from Portballintrae to Portrush.
Bushmills Distillery Ireland's oldest working distillery was licensed in 1608 but operated many years earlier. The very worthwhile tour is recommended.
The area is also famous for its beaches:
Runkerry Beach (Portballintrae) is over a kilometre in length. Head for the harbour and follow the road to the right for a couple of hundred yards to the free car park. From there it's a pleasant walk to Runkerry beach. Feeling fit - then try the coastal walk to the left of Runkerry House to the Giant's Causeway.
Portstewart Strand is owned by the National Trust. Cars may be driven and parked right on the beach for a small charge for non National Trust members.
White Rocks (Portrush) is a long and quite spectacular beach with rocky outcrops. It is on the outskirts of Portrush on the road to Portballintrae.
Several golf courses are available:
Bushfoot Golf Club: This is is a nine hole links type course in Portballintrae. Why not drop in for a drink, snack or a full meal ?
Royal Portrush Golf Club: There are two eighteen hole courses at this truly world famous links club.
Portstewart Golf Club: A classic golf course with a magnificent new club house overlooking Porstewart Strand and across the lough to Co. Donegal.
